Whenever someone asks me about high school, instantly, the detailed face and full name of each of my favorite high school characters comes to mind bringing warm and fuzzy feelings for a place that, if we’re honest, wasn’t always warm or fuzzy.
A move in the eighth grade took our family from Colorado to Georgia where I quickly learned kids at my new school were funny. Very funny. I was surrounded by original thinkers who, while not especially politically correct, were in the ranks of professional comedians.
High school will never be completely enjoyable but I am thankful for those who proved themselves to be reliable sources of comic relief.
When I look back at high school, I never think of the whole, I think of the individuals who I believe were and are genuine, intelligent, decent people with whom I share an experience of space and time that will always connect us.
When you’re young you never think about your future high school life but, if you’re lucky, one day you’ll realize you are bound for life to a motley crew who helped shape who you’ve chosen to become or not become. Go, Dragons.
